Down South Cajjun Eats brings creole to P ugerville In southwest P ugerville, between I-35 and FM 1825, twin brothers Jahmaal and Jermaine Dumes have taken their taste of home and turned it into a business. Serving authentic Cajun cuisine, Down South Cajjun Eats o ers hearty, avorful dishes in a lively atmosphere. After several years of feeding the community during pop-up events or at their outdoor venue in P ugerville, the brothers opened their brick-and- mortar location in 2023. What’s on the menu

Down South Cajjun Eats o ers creole classics, such as chicken and sausage gumbo, craw sh etou ee, and shrimp and grits. Signature dishes include The Dirty South, which comes with blackened cat sh, craw sh tails and grilled shrimp over a bed of dirty rice with dark- roux etou ee sauce. Other entrees include Cajun pastas, seafood mac and cheese, fried seafood platters, boils, wings, chicken sandwiches and more.
“We want to give people an experience they’ve never had before, make them feel like they’re at home and feel like they’re family,” Jermaine said. How we got here From Beaumont, roughly 30 minutes from the Texas-Louisiana border, the brothers were accus- tomed to Cajun food—a prevalent cuisine for the region. With few options in the area, they turned to their own kitchen to satisfy their hunger.
