HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS MONTH

FROM NICOLE: The year is o to a busy start, with Conroe ISD forming a bond committee to discuss a potential bond election later this year as well as news about opportunities for economic development in The Woodlands. Our cover stories this month look at plans to prepare for growth in CISD as well as plans to potentially expand the township’s retail, restaurant and hotel bases. Be sure to check our Rodeo Guide (see Page 29) to see where and when to catch a ride to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo this year as well. Nicole Preston, GENERAL MANAGER

FROM VANESSA: A new board of directors in The Woodlands has set economic development as a priority this year, and members will consider strategies to attract more revenue-generating businesses as part of that. Our cover story this month takes a closer look at a proposal for development at The Woodlands Mall as well as what other future economic initiatives could look like. Vanessa Holt, SENIOR EDITOR CORRECTION: Vol. 12, Issue 5 A quote from state Rep. Steve Toth on Page 28 regarding the state of streets in the Tamina community was disputed by Tamina residents as inaccurate. Toth told Community Impact on Jan. 31 the information was obtained secondhand. Community Impact could not substantiate the remarks based on a site visit.

I wrote a piece for our clients called “Waiting for Godot” where I compared our waiting for the recession that has been predicted for a year to the famous Samuel Beckett play (if you’d like a copy you can call us or just go to our website). The narrative goes that the Fed’s inflation fighting monetary policy will certainly lead to an economic slowdown at least and an economic catastrophe at worst. So, while we wait for the coming recession we are keeping a close eye on corporate earnings, which while also predicted to plummet, have stubbornly remained steady. Be careful of market narratives put forward by folks with an agenda. No one knows with any certainty what the future holds and that’s why we build portfolios to withstand uncertainty. Let us help.
