HIGHLIGHTS TOMBALL ISD The health care- focused Pathways in Technology Early College High School program is on track to begin this fall, said Bob Thompson, dean of student advancement for Tomball ISD. The program will be made up of 25 students, Thompson said. Through this program—in partnership with HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball and Lone Star College-Tomball—students can obtain health care certi cations, an Associate of Science degree and a Level 1 certi cate, he said. Thompson said the district expects to hear back on its application by the end of February. The Conroe ISD board of trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at 3205 W. Conroe ISD sets 2023 24 school calendar
Lone Star College System chancellor to retire Aug. 1 BY CASSANDRA JENKINS LONE STAR COLLEGE Stephen Head, the chancellor of the Lone Star College System, announced he will retire Aug. 1 in a LSCS news release Jan. 10. Head started at LSCS in 1984, serving as president of three campuses and executive vice chan- cellor before becoming chancellor in 2014. He served as chancellor for eight years, according to the release. Head said in the release he hopes to give the LSCS board of trustees plenty of time to search and select his replacement by making his announcement early. The LSCS board of trustees will begin conducting a search for its fth chancellor. According to the release, a search committee and search consultant will be used.

CONROE ISD The 2023-24 school calendar for Conroe ISD was unan- imously approved at its Jan. 17 meeting, including 174 total days of school for students starting Aug. 9. A district-level committee con- sidered several options as well as calendars from neighboring districts before deciding on a recommenda- tion for the calendar, said Hedith Sauceda-Upshaw, assistant superin- tendent for teaching and learning at the Jan. 17 meeting.
