HIGHLIGHTS CONROE According to City Council discussion June 6, city ocials are considering calling for a bond election to fund scal year 2023- 24 capital improvement projects. Citing the high cost of building the Hyatt Regency Conroe and Convention Center that opened in May, council members agreed calling for a bond could be the best way to fund high-priority projects. City ocials said a bond election could be called for November or May, but the idea of a bond election must rst be presented to council. New head of visitors bureau named

CONROE Sherry Chaney Morgan is Conroe’s new director for the Con- vention and Visitors Bureau, Conroe announced in a May 30 release. The Conroe Convention and Visitors Bureau, also known as Visit Conroe, serves the city’s visitors. According to the release, Morgan previously served as the tourism coordinator from 2012-17 and most recently as the executive director for the visitors center in Nacogdoches. “My goal with Visit Conroe is to ensure that visitors feel welcomed to Conroe and come back for years to come,” Morgan said in the release. Conroe approves additional $5.1M for Hyatt

nance and assistant city admin- istrator, said projections show the hotel’s operating revenue is around $2.9 million and operating expenses are around $4.5 million in the rst year. “That $5 million ‘oh by the way’ is just kind of unconscionable to me,” Council Member Harry Hardman said. “So I still don’t understand how we got here today and why this was not given its due diligence more so than three days before the damn thing was open.”
CONROE City Council approved an additional $5.1 million cash infusion that’s needed to sustain operations of the Hyatt Regency Conroe and Convention Center during a special meeting May 22. Raymond Gareld Jr., chair of Gareld Public/Private, said during the meeting an additional $5.1 mil- lion was needed to open the hotel and carry it through 2024 as there was a lack of working capital.
