Frisco ISD to expand student learning in health care ! elds Isabella Scuilla graduated this spring from Reedy High School with two cer- ti ! cations in health care. The COVID-19 pandemic helped open her eyes to the needs in the ! eld, she said, and she plans to go tomedical school after grad- uating from college. “They need people more than ever to help and be involved,” Scuilla said. The bridge widening along the northbound lanes of Coit Road is now under construction. FriscoOKs deal for performing arts center, park at Hall Park

Frisco council members on June 1 entered into an agreement with the school district and developer Craig Hall for $129 million in projects at Hall Park. They include a long- awaited performing arts center, a parking garage and a roughly 5-acre park. Fellow public partners of the city include Frisco ISD, the Frisco Com- munity Development Corp. and the Frisco Economic Development Corp. Development from this agreement includes a $66 million performing arts center with at least 1,250 seats in a main performance hall, and at least 250 seats in a community venue, according to a memo prepared for Frisco City Council by city sta ! . The performing arts center and parking garage will be publicly owned, according to the agreement. The facility will be designed to hold multipurpose events for entertain- ment, educational and recreational uses and events. In addition, a $33 million, 1,100- stall parking garage will support the performing arts center and a $30million, roughly 5-acre public park similar to KlydeWarren Park in Dallas, the memo states. Funds for these projects come from approvedmunicipal bonds and Hall. The city is paying $13 million for the design and construction of the performing arts center’s community venue and common areas, according to the agreement. FISDwill provide $43 million for the design and construction of the center’s main performance hall and common areas. FISD trustees will need to approve

the agreement on a future date, according to Assistant Director of Communications Meghan Cone. Hall will contribute $10million toward the construction of the performing arts center and dedicate 5 acres for it and its associated garage. The city and/or FCDC will provide $33 million for the development of the parking garage. For the park, the city is contributing $15 million in partial funding, with an additional $15 million fromHall, according to the agreement. Hall is set to give the parkland to the city once construction is complete. The FEDC, while not part of the agreement for the performing arts center and park, will provide up to $5 million toward redevelopment of a portion of Hall Park for two buildings, according to the memo. Additional assets the development brings is the interest in increased projects in the area and creating a community that can “thrive,” Cheney said. He estimated the project will bring a $2.5 billion economic impact over the next 30 years. “This is going to be a generational project that generations of Frisco residents and visitors are going to come to enjoy,” he said. The hotel is slated for opening in spring 2023.

Shepherds GlenPark gets city’s approval for $2.5million facelift FRISCO A $2.5 million upgrade is in the works for Shepherds Glen Park. Council voted May 18 to proceed with a $300,000 contract for design services with Dallas-based Studio TLA. The studio will be working with a $2.5 million construction budget, according to city documents. Shepherds Glen Park is located along the College Parkway Hike and Bike Trail between Canoe Road and Shepherds Hill Drive. According to a memo, Studio TLA will draft plans to include a larger splash pad area, larger playground elements, new parking areas and more.

FRISCO City Council voted unani- mously May 18 to approve a rezoning request that paves the way for a $1 billion mixed-use development east of the PGA Frisco project. The Link is estimated to generate $7 million a year in property tax revenue and $3 million a year in sales tax revenue once fully built out. The 2 million to 2.5 million square feet of o ! ce space would attract between 8,000 and 10,000 jobs, according to project estimates. And an untold number of other jobs would be

created at the site for restaurant, retail, hospitality, wellness, medical and entertainment uses. Mayor Je " Cheney said the devel- opers took an odd-shaped plot of land with a # ood plain in the middle of it and created what is expected to be a world-class project. This plan is made possible “because of the halo e " ect of the PGA,” he said. The plan allows for up to 2,206 multifamily units. The revisions also allow for up to 500 single-family and cottage homes.
