With three trustee seats up for elec- tion in May and an upcoming search for a new permanent superintendent, half of Richardson ISD’s eight-person leadership team could be made up of new faces by the end of the year. Board President Regina Harris and trustee Eron Linn are the longest tenured current board members. Both of their seats, along with the currently vacant District 5 position, will go before RISD voters May 7. Over the last four months, the district has seen the resignation of former Superintendent Jeannie Stone and former board President Karen Clardy, who represented District 5. Clardy resigned Sept. 24 in a letter to the superintendent and the other trustees, while a separation agree- ment for Stone was approved by the board Dec. 13.

Clardy said seeing Stone’s resigna- tion as a possibility was the reason she left her position on the board. “I loved working on the board, and I did not want to [resign],” Clardy said. “But I also didn’t want to be on the board that got rid of [Stone].” The Texas Association of School Administrators oers learning opportunities and advocacy eorts

for superintendents and other admin- istrators. Its Executive Director Kevin Brown said the association had seen 55 superintendent openings in Texas by December. “It is a very dicult time to nd a highly qualied superintendent,” Brown said. Following Stone’s resignation, the RISD board appointed Tabitha

Branum as the district’s interim superintendent. Branum said she plans to apply for the district’s permanent superintendent position when it is posted. “I don’t want to go anywhere,” Branum said. “Where there may have been opportunities in the past, I’ve stayed because I love the people, [and] I love this community.”
