May 27, 2023: Texas House votes 121-23 to impeach Paxton. He is immediately suspended from o ce without pay.

What’s next?
Sept. 16, 2023: Thirty state senators vote to acquit Paxton on 16 articles of impeachment and dismiss four others.
Feb. 21, 2023: Paxton asks the Texas Legislature to fund the settlement with taxpayer money.
Paxton still faces a state trial, which will likely begin next year, for two securities fraud charges dating back to 2015. The FBI is also investigating him regarding the whistleblower report.
March 8, 2023: The House General Investigating Committee opens an investigation.
