Georgetown City Council discussed three potential design concepts for the Austin Avenue pedestrian bridge at an August workshop. Miguel Rosales, bridge architect for the city’s engineering consultant Freese and Nichols, outlined details of each design concept. A majority of the City Council members favored Concept 2. Through meetings with community stakeholders, Freese and Nichols identied the need for adequate lighting, bridges that blend with nature, and safe bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The city has been planning possible improvements to the Austin Avenue bridge, which crosses the San Gabriel River, for roughly seven years. Designs revealed for Austin Ave. pedestrian bridge

City planners anticipate bidding the project for construction in 2025, and work is planned for 2026-27, according to the city.
Ocials said the Freese and Nichols project team is scheduled to come back before council in November. Council will then select one concept before completing the environmental review and design part of the process.
