There have been discussions about putting another bond before League City voters. What projects should be included in the bond?
Proposing a bond before League City voters is not only requesting an approval or disapproval, but also under- standing that this will in fact incur debt that we will all have to pay back. With that said, if we are going to pay something back, it is important that all projects included in the proposed bond benet League City residents. Safety is a priority, so being able to provide all necessary means to keep our town safe, such as equipment and personnel for our rst responders, and an additional facility for our police ocers should be included. Projects related to our growth, infrastructure and drainage are all extremely important, and last but certainly not least, a library/recreation type center on the west side for all of us to continue to make wonderful memories with our family and friends.
I would like to address the remaining areas needing flood mitigation. I would like to see sidewalks repaired and road changes made so that children can walk to school rather than being dropped off in car lines. I would hope to see the expansion of the library service to handle the west side of town and a community center and park on the west side. We can accomplish much without needing a new bond issue.
New schools for future housing developments, new fire/ police stations, both more likely on the west side of League City due to future growth and to repair any other infrastructure that needs it and is not covered under the current capital projects.
I’m generally supportive of projects which 1.) position the city to meet the demands of the next 60 years 2.) contribute to our infrastructure resilience 3.) strengthen the connection between our residents and the places we share. The city’s master plans identify $300400M of potential (yet unfunded) capital improvements. The next bond could draw from that list and fund: 1.) the capacity expansion of the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility and/or 2.) the Westover Park Project.
First I am not in favor of another bond project. If, and that is a major if, another bond project was approved by council & came before voters I would want that money for the following reasons: 1st - Cover any shortfalls of the current Bond Project, 2nd - Additional traffic/mobility issues that were not identified or included in the previous Bond Project, 3rd - Possible expansion of city facilities on the West Side of the city (Police substation, Fire & EMS stations, maybe aspects of the west side library & possi- ble recreational amenities / pavilion). Let me clarify part of this statement. The actual funding for a library I would want the city to look for other means of funding than a Bond (i.e. Grants & public / private funding sources).
Any discussion about future bond issues must be focused on flooding and city infrastructure needs not just being addressed but solved. Whatever we have to do to miti- gate flooding in every part of the city is paramount. There are some neighborhoods that historically flood like Bay- ridge and the Oaks of Clear Creek that the city has been working on, but problems still exist. And traffic solutions need to be actual solutions, not just Band-Aids.
