Commissioner Dr. John Hellerstedt said in a statement. “Twenty-two Texas children between the ages of 5 and 11 have died from complications of COVID-19, and 118 have been diagnosed with Multisystem Inammatory Syndrome in Children.” Hellersteadt said the shot is proven to reduce the chance of death or serious illness from COVID-19. Because children ages 5-11 will receive a smaller dose of the vaccine, providers must request the product specically for that age group. At least 46 providers in Travis County received pediatric vaccine shipments in early November, as well as 15 in Williamson County and seven in Hays County, including local public health departments, doctor’s oces and pharmacies. “As a parent, I’m excited that my children will hopefully soon be vaccinated. ... The initial eort will focus on communities hardest hit by

With nal authorization from the Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children ages 5 to 11 are now able to receive Pzer’s COVID-19 vaccine in the Austin area. The CDC gave the green light for the vaccine, previously available to those 12 and up, to be oered to children in the new age group Nov. 2, following the FDA’s decision to extend emergency use authorization for the vaccine to children over 5. The vaccine is 90.7% eective in preventing COVID-19 in those ages 5-11, per the FDA.
