FIRST LOOK The Arlo Local developer bringing upscale wedding venue to Texas Hill Country A large white home situated at the highest point along Signal Hill Road in Southwest Austin is poised to become the newest wedding and event venue in the Texas Hill Country. The Arlo will open in March and is booking for the 2021 and 2022 wedding season. Owned by Ron and Lisa McGuire, the couple purchased the 9-acre property in 2004, and after waiting for the right time to launch and years of planning ocially broke ground in January 2020 on the new project. McGuire, who is a Dripping Springs-based commercial and residential developer, said The Arlo oers a new kind of space for the area. While most venues in the”Wedding Capital of Texas” are rustic, he said making The Arlo feel comfortable and upscale was part of the goal. The new construction features tall ceilings, wall-to-wall windows to let in ample natural light, and modern amenities including catering spaces and private dressing areas. “This is so dierent from anything else in Dripping Springs,” he said. “Most venues here are these converted old barns or houses with a rustic or industrial look. This is a more French country with a clean, contemporary twist on it.” Although The Arlo will primarily be a wedding venue, manager Melony Rodwell said the space was built with a variety of dierent-sized events in mind. The 15,000-square-foot venue includes three dierent-sized gathering rooms, two outdoor courtyards, a large bridal suite, and a separate house for groomsmen or guests. Individual spaces can be rented for corporate events or other formal get-togethers, she said. “The idea is really just to make the space as multifunctional as possible and to let people do with it what they want,” she said. The mix of indoor and outdoor spaces also allows couples to adjust their events depending on the weather or the current climate with the coronavirus pandemic. Rodwell said the outdoor courtyard will be a go-to for groups hoping to social distance in the open air instead of inside. BY NICHOLAS CICALE
