BUSINESS FEATURE Sci Fi Factory Game store sells traditional and trending merchandise B rennan Enos said ever since he was a child, he has had a passion for comic books, board games and Dungeons & Dragons. He worked at game stores throughout high school and college. Although he became a college English professor, he harbored a dream to one day open a game store. In October 2011, he and his wife, Michele Enos, opened Sci Fi Factory in northeast Fort Worth. “I’m a big nerd, and Michele is very tolerant of my nerdiness,” Enos said. Almost everyone who comes into the gaming store has multiple interests, Enos said. “A lot of people who like Funko Pop are into com- ics,” he said. “A lot who like Magic: The Gathering like Pokémon. People who like Yu-Gi-Oh like anime gures. People who like Warhead also like D&D.” Sci Fi Factory’s top-selling merchandise includes D&D miniature gures, Funko Pop gures and Warhammer items. The shop also hosts a variety of gaming events each week. Enos said when it comes to choosing which D&D inventory to stock, he relies on his own expertise. When choosing anime merchandise, he said he takes customer requests and advice from his sons. For Funko Pops he said he follows trends. “Right now, it’s anything Godzilla, Marvel and anime,” he said. “It’s very uid.” The store’s ocial business motto is “Friends, family, fun,” but the unocial motto is, “Every- thing a nerd needs at their ngertips,” Enos said. The shop owner professes to be “King of the Nerds” and said he strives to create a welcoming environment for everyone. “When I was growing up, there weren’t a lot of nerds around. I went to middle school one time wearing a Captain America shirt, and I got teased,” he said. “Now, I love it that some of those same people I went to school with are coming in here to buy.” BY KAREN CHANEY
