Center for Teaching and Learning prepares for growth

The Center for Teaching and Learning, a nonprot private school founded in 2014 and situated on 8 acres of eques- trian land at 10431 Hufsmith Road in Tomball, has been expanding to accommodate additional students as its lls out its pre-K and high school programs. The school serves grades pre-K through 12 in areas including The Woodlands with 65 students enrolled as of early January, according to Head of School Linda Ellis. The school has a main building with barn-style cottages, which provide spaces for the grades to gather and learn in their own environments. The early childhood program was moved to separate cottages on the campus after renovations were completed late last year to allow for younger students to have their own space, according to Ellis. Kindergarten and rst grade were previously combined, she said. The high school section has also seen growth with students now enrolled in every grade level. Ellis said the school is looking into building additional cottages to make room for the high school and middle school students to give them their own space and allow for more exibility and focus in learning. With 8 acres of land, Ellis said the school is ready to expand and oer more programs for its local and interna- tional students.

The Woodlands Christian Academy, a pri- vate school located at 5800 Academy Way, The Woodlands, kicked o a new Spanish immersion program in the 2022-23 school year that aims to provide dual-language uency starting from kindergarten through high school, according to Lower School Principal Patty Bruha. According to Bruha, the class started in the beginning of the school year with 17 kindergarten students who were placed in an environment where 90% of instruction is given in Spanish and 10% in English. By fth grade, students will move to a 50/50 Spanish-English balance in their courses and will maintain that through high school. The program is capped at 18 students, and students cannot be added

after rst grade to prevent any students from falling behind, she said. The program is being administered in partnership with Addalingua, a company that specializes in dual-language curricu- lum. Each year, the program will expand one grade level to follow the rst class of students through high school and pave the way for the new classes of students each year, Bruha said. To help with the program, Bruha said the school intends to install additional signage around the campus in Spanish as well as English.
