Work to relocate city utilities along SH 5 is expected to begin in May following the approval of a construction contract for the work at an April 16 meeting. McKinney City Council mem- bers unanimously approved a roughly $15.8 million contract with ANA Site Construction LLC for the project as part of the consent agenda at the meeting. The background The Texas Department of Trans- portation has plans to reconstruct SH 5 in McKinney as well as in parts of neighboring cities. The project will include additional lanes in some segments of the roadway as well as other improvements. Ahead of the reconstruction work, city officials are working to relocate utility lines, including water mains and wastewater mains that would be impacted by the reconstruction effort. The details City staff received six bids for the project, with ANA Site Construction LLC submitting the lowest bid. The $15.8 million contract also included a maxi- mum price of about $19.8 million, pending any change orders. The work includes relocating over 23,000 feet of water distribu- tion mains and about 10,700 feet of wastewater collection lines, according to city documents. Acquisition of temporary and permanent construction ease- ments began in August 2022. The utility relocation work is expected to be complete by May 2026, according to city documents.

New hangar, US Customs facility to debut at McKinney National Airport
A new hangar and a customs facility broke ground at McKinney National Airport on May 10. The specifics Corporate Hangar 10 will span 40,000 square feet while the new U.S. Customs facility will be 3,200 square feet. The facility will allow for expedited processing for pas- sengers on international flights, according to a news release from
construction firm Swinerton. Diving deeper McKinney City Council mem- bers approved the issuance of $24.5 million in certificates of obligation for the project at a November meeting. The project is being completed through a pub- lic-private partnership between the city of McKinney and develop- ment firm Griffin Swinerton.
