Leander residents cast ballots in a special election Feb. 7. Na’Cole Thompson won the race for mayor of Leander and Annette Sponseller won the race for City Council Place 4. The mayoral position opened up after Mayor Christine DeLisle stepped down in October. Thompson stepped down from the Place 4 seat on the council to run for mayor. Thompson faced opponents Mike Sanders and Kathryn Pantalion-Parker. Sponseller also faced one other candidate, Andy Eis. Thompson, Sponseller win City Council seats

The victors will serve for the rest of the current terms, which expire in May 2027. As of press time, Sponseller was scheduled to be sworn in on Feb. 19. Thompson is scheduled to be sworn in on Feb. 27.
