HIGHLIGHTS MONTGOMERY ISD Eddie Winn won the May 6 election against incumbent Mike Hopkins for the trustee Position 1 seat with 62.98% of votes, according to unocial results from the Montgomery County Elections Oce. CONROE ISD The Rave 911 app will be introduced to Montgomery County school districts next year, oering a new way to communicate with emergency services or sta in emergencies. CISD Police Chief Matthew Blakelock said during an April 19 meeting the app can notify medical or law enforcement agencies as needed. CISD will be responsible for paying approximately $20,000 to roll out the app, which will be at the start of next year, Assistant Superintendent of Operations Chris McCord said. HIGHLIGHTS CONROE During a May 8 economic forum, Danielle Scheiner, executive director of the Conroe Economic Development Council, updated the public on Conroe’s economy, technology and industrial parks. Scheiner said Conroe North Park has reached 98% capacity with a total of 1,655 acres under contract or sold. She said the CEDC is looking for additional land; however, if no land presents itself, the park will be at a standstill. WILLIS ISD Montgomery County Commissioners approved a contract between Willis ISD and the county sheri’s oce for nine school resource ocers, according to an April 15 release. The positions were already funded and previously lled by the Precinct 1 Constable’s Oce. “I am excited to add these nine school resource ocers to my team and eager to partner with Willis ISD as we keep our kids safe,” Sheri Rand Henderson said in the release. Superintendent Tim Harkrider said in a statement WISD determined the sheri’s oce would provide more safety for sta and students. “We felt the sheri’s oce would better be able to enhance the safety and security of Willis ISD students and sta,” he said. “All nine of our ocers have made the switch, so there will not be any impact to our safety operations.”

MONTGOMERY COUNTY Willis will have its own Montgomery County Tax Oce location after the Commissioners Court approved new positions and the lease for the new location at its April 25 meeting. “This is going to be a huge thing for the north part of the county to have a tax oce up there,” Precinct 1 Commissioner Robert Walker said. He said the tax oce will fund the oce’s build-out, while the $161,702 for new salaries will come out of Precinct 1’s budget until scal year 2023-24. The oce will have two dep- uty specialists, an assistant branch manager and a branch manager.

The new schools needed are an elementary/intermediate school in The Woodlands High School feeder zone; a seventh through ninth grade campus in the Grand Oaks feeder zone; and a new high school in the Conroe area. CONROE ISD Construction managers were selected for three potential new schools during a Conroe ISD school board meeting April 18. The proposed campuses are expected to be a part of the 2023 bond referendum, which has not yet been placed on the ballot for Nov. 7. “[We are] estimating construc- tibility reviews and working with our architecture rm to make sure this program plan comes together and hits our budget targets and program needs,” said Easy Foster, director of planning and construc- tion for the district. Foster said the early approval of the potential managers will allow the district to move forward with bidding and receiving a guaranteed maximum price if a bond referen- dum is approved by voters.

MONTGOMERY Former Mayor Sara Countryman and newcomer Stan Donaldson won elections for Montgomery City Council in the May 6 election. Countryman, who received 117 votes in the election, served as mayor from 2018-22. She could not be reached for comment as of press time. She won the race for Mont- gomery City Council Place 3 over former City Council Member Julie Davis, who received 95 votes. Place 3 was on the ballot after incumbent T. J. Wilkerson did not run for re-election. In Place 5, Donaldson received 110 votes, leading the race against challenger Juanita Simmons, who received 100 votes. Incumbent

Patricia Easley did not le for re-election to Place 5. Donaldson said he hopes to be an asset to the community by serving on City Council. “I’m looking forward to serving the community, rst of all; that’s why I ran. I think that I have some experience that will help me evaluate things that will be benecial to the community as a whole and to the citizens. I’m hoping to be an asset to the community,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it; I couldn’t be happier.” All results are unocial until canvassed.
