NEW BRAUNFELS ISD The board of trustees met Sept. 12 to consider appointing a trustee to ll the vacancy left by former board Presi- dent Wes Clark, who resigned from his position Aug. 6. Former NBISD Trustee David Heefner was appointed to fulll the open trustee position. New board President Eric Bergquist said the decision was made to appoint Heefner due to his previous experience on the board. “We decided No. 1 that the candi- date would not be running for school board in May of 2023, as we would

like this decision to be made by the citizens of New Braunfels Indepen- dent School District by an election as opposed to an appointment,” Bergquist said. “And No. 2, knowing that this appointment was going to be short-term, we felt it was necessary to appoint someone with prior board experience who can hit the ground running with all the big decisions in front of us that we’ll be facing in the next nine months.” Heefner was rst elected in 2016 but did not to run for a third term in May 2022.
