1 Katy ISD adopts fall break for future school years Katy ISD board of trustees approved an amendment to add a fall break to the 2026-27 calendar, at its Jan. 20 meeting. The board also approved the 2027-28 instructional calendar, which sets Aug. 11, 2027. 2 Lamar CISD’s superintendent named finalist in national competition Lamar CISD Superintendent Roosevelt Nivens has been named a 2026 National Superintendent of the Year finalist by The School Superintendents Association, or AASA. The 2026 Superintendent of the Year will be announced in February. 3 Katy ISD to open applications for new statewide virtual high school Statewide enrollment for a Legacy Virtual High School at Katy ISD opened Feb. 2. The inaugural school year will welcome ninth- through 11th-grade students this summer, with the first class of 12th grade students in the fall of 2027.

The school—a partnership between the district and nonprofit Lamar Legacy Partners—will serve students three years old to second grade offering: • Specialized classrooms tailored to sensory and behavioral needs • Targeted communication and behavioral support • A team that understands how to help children navigate the school day The academy will also offer at-home support with required parents training, according to the district’s website.

Going forward District parents can apply through March 20 at www.lcisd.org/brightfutures, per the district’s website. Interested parties must live within district boundaries and sign a family partnership agreement.
