Fulshear calls May 2 special election to increase general fund sales tax
Fulshear sales tax split Fulshear voters will determine whether to increase the city's general fund sales tax
Economic Development Corp.’s A-Board
General Fund
Fulshear voters will determine whether to increase the city’s general fund sales tax from 1% to 1.25%, while reducing one of the city’s Economic Development Corp. board’s sales tax from 0.5% to 0.25% during a May 2 special election. The special election was approved in a 4-1 vote at a Feb. 3 City Council meeting with District 5 council member Abhijeet Utturkar voting against. At-large council member Camron Miller and District 2 council member Patrick Powers were absent. Explained If approved, the special election would shift sales tax from the EDC’s ABoard to the general fund, rather than creating a Crime Control and Prevention District—which was suggested at a Jan. 20 meeting. The move would give the city more exibility with tax revenue, City Manager Zach Goodlander said.
The additional sales tax would amount to approx- imately $1.25 million—still below the $1.7 million city ocials are aiming to reach in police funding—but could also be used for other projects if City Council deems it necessary, Goodlander said. What they’re saying Fulshear EDC ABoard President Bryan White expressed concern about the potential move, naming Wallis Street drainage and downtown road projects as two that may stall with the proposed changes. “Multiple properties in the downtown district cannot be developed until these drainage problems are done,” White said. “Unless you have another plan, the downtown district will stay the way it is right now, which is no commercial development.” With no commercial development, there will

Fort Bend Toll Road underpass possible
Katy appoints 1st female interim chief
BOIS D'ARC LN.
A toll road underpass for the Westpark Tollway extension is feasible but several obstacles remain, according to a study by Gannett Fleming Inc. What’s happening? The $50,000 study, which was approved by Ful- shear City Council in May, found an underpass is feasible from an engineering perspective, but will cost $51.8 million in total—about $10 million more than a typical stretch on other sections of road. Potential utility relocations were not included in the analysis, officials said. “Aesthetically, it would be very pleasing to all of us in Fulshear to have something under downtown instead of another overpass,” Fulshear Mayor Don McCoy said. is contingent on: • The county’s agreement to purchase the city’s water reclamation facility at fair market value • The county’s agreement to cover unanticipated change order costs for the relocation of the city’s diversion lift station • The Toll Road Authority’s engagement with the city in all phases of the design of the tollway extension through the downtown area What’s next? Funding for the project has not yet been deter- mined, city officials said.

Massey’s interim appointment as current Fire Chief Kenneth Parker prepares for retirement following five years in the position and 28 years of service—12 with the city of Katy. Massey has been with the Katy Fire Department since 1999, winning the city’s 2021 Employee of the Year award.

Elect: George Brian Vachris to State Board of Education District 8 Licensed Engineer, Former Teacher in Houston ISD, taught at a Title 1 School for 9 years. Dedicated to improving: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) Curricula. Familiar with the Texas Education Agency Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Course Framework. He successfully testified against a bad proposed engineering course to have it rewritten and redesignated, in November 2024. He testified at a Texas State Senate Committee against the use of incorrect pronoun designations and transgender transitions. This should have no place in our public schools. Patriotism and the benefits of free market economies versus socialist and communist economies must be taught. By Law, SB 24 requires that the State incorporate the teaching of the evils of communist regimes, the mass starvations, the terror under Stalin and Mao, the rise of communism in Latin America, etc. The provisions of the law must be incorporated into the TEKS for chapter 113 (social studies). This law is NOT on the list of new requirements on the TEA website! Why? He will pay attention to details and work to adjust the TEKS. Part of his testimony is shown below. He has 4 degrees in various fields, helped write the Republican Platform.
THE PURPOSE OF THIS STATEMENT IS TO REMIND THE BOARD THAT SENATE BILL 24 REQUIRES THE STATE TO TEACH THE DANGERS AND CRIMES OF COMMUNIST REGIMES…THE KEY TO ADOPTING SB 24 INTO THE CURRICULUM IS TO ENSURE THAT ALL OF THE PROVISIONS ARE INCORPORATED INTO THE TEKS FOR THE …REQUIRED COURSES… [Part of his Testimony Before S.B.O.E. Grow revenue without raising tax rates: navigator, shop local, forge, foodie park, cook for a cause, best value contracting. Bring integrity and transparency back to the county; stop the budget deficits and “right size” the budget; stop casually using eminent domain; review all infrastructure plans; review all homeland security plans; address the veterans service’s deficiencies; address the concerns of animal rights groups.
