4 Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Pflugerville Pflugerville-area cardiac patients now have more comprehensive services right in their own community. Recent investments at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Pflugerville are going toward more comprehensive cardiac care, with more advanced diagnostics and treatment capabilities. Dr. Raul Mercado Garcia, a cardiologist at the Pflugerville medical center, said the facility recently opened a new cardiovascular lab. The new lab allows patients to receive advanced procedures, such as angiograms, and device implantations locally. These on-site services allow the hospital to avoid transferring patients out to other facilities.
5 Dell Children’s Medical Center North Campus Dell Children’s Medical Center North Campus, part of Ascension Seton, became the first pediatric hospital in the world in May to receive a new robotic spinal surgery technology. The VELYS Robotic-Assisted System will allow pediatric surgeons to perform safer, more accurate spinal surgeries for children with scoliosis and other advanced spinal conditions, said Dr. Brian Kaufman, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Dell Children’s. The 3D imaging technology allows surgeons to more accurately place and drill screws in a patient’s back that may be needed to correct scoliosis or other spinal deformities.
6 Texas Children’s Hospital Texas Children’s Hospital in Northwest Austin celebrated the opening of a Ronald McDonald House at the hospital with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in March. The nonprofit opened its first in-hospital home in Central Texas to alleviate a growing waitlist of families seeking support. Ronald McDonald House provides free housing, food and transportation services for families while their ill or injured child receives care in Central Texas. The house features nine bedrooms for up to 36 people, one of which is for transplant patients and their families. The facility is available to families of patients at Texas Children’s or any North Austin hospital. Families have stayed at the Ronald McDonald House anywhere from two to 500 nights depending on their child’s needs.
