Boss said the military environment taught her how to work with people with dierent backgrounds. “So much of that [military] culture is how do you get along with people? Because it’s not like other working environments where you might get to choose the people you work with,” she said. “You’re just put in this environment and you have to gure out a way to work together to achieve the mission.” Today, Boss said that mindset helps her see her sta, clients and clients’ parents as a team working together to achieve the best outcomes for her patients. “No two cases are ever the same; it’s always a daily challenge; and I nd that very personally fullling,” she said. Orthodontics is a dental speciality addressing treatments, prevention and management for malpositioned teeth and jaw bones. Boss said the work is like a puzzle, and requires a lot of problem solving and critical thinking. At the end of the day, Boss said her primary goal is to boost her patients’ condence and help them feel satised with their smile. “I enjoy developing relationships with patients because you get to have long-term relationships with patients and their families,” Boss said.

Boss owns and operates three orthodontist practices with her husband, Dr. Hunter Boss, and said she has always had an adventurous spirit. “When I started dental school, I soon realized my options were to either put down roots and really settle in, or maybe do something else,” she said. “I remember getting the yer [from the Air Force] and it said I could live in Italy, so I said, ‘Yes, I want to do that.’” Boss served in the Air Force from 2009-14. Most of her deployment was at F-16 ghter bases, and she was stationed in South Korea; Italy; Northern California; and Wichita Falls, Texas. “We lived in the dorms with the ghter pilots,” Boss said. “I have a huge appreciation for ghter pilot culture, which I never in a million years thought that I would have the opportunity to appreciate.” After retiring from military service, Boss went to the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, where she met her husband. Boss and her husband moved to Austin in 2018, but because the orthodontics market in the Austin area was tight, they both had to travel to West Texas for work. “We knew that the sooner we could get started building our business and
