Sprinkler mandates may come for Round Rock pet facilities ROUND ROCK City staff is working on an ordinance requiring sprinkler systems and carbon monoxide detectors for businesses that board animals in response to a November 2021 fire at the Ponderosa Pet Resort in nearby Georgetown. There are 23 businesses in Round Rock that offer animal boarding services, according to city staff. Fire Department Chief Shane Glaiser said Jan. 24 the requirement would impact existing businesses with facilities 10,000 square feet and larger. Streets within Old Settlers Park added to 25 mph speed zone

ROUND ROCK T.C. Oates Lane, Whitlow Way and Sports Capital Crossing will be the newest road- ways within Old Settlers Park to have signage clarifying speed limits. Round Rock officials gave approval Jan. 24 to add those streets to the ordinance limiting Harrell Parkway to 25 mph inside Old Settlers Park. Police Chief Allen Banks said the signs could include flashing speed signs like the ones already

present on Harrell Parkway, the main north-south route through the park. Round Rock Transportation Director Gary Hudder said the city has taken regulatory steps and measures, including conducting traffic studies, to officially make the changes. City staff has not yet provided a time frame for installation, but Hudder said it should occur within a few months.
