The board approved the extra days during an Aug. 18 meeting, and they will combine with eight days of COVID-19 leave that ocials approved last September following successful lobbying from the Pugerville Educators Association. HUTTO ISD The district’s third middle school will be named Gus Almquist Middle School after Gus Almquist, a Hutto resident who served on the HISD board of trustees for 17 years. Trustees selected the name from a list of community submissions at an Aug. 25 meeting. The school is still in the design phase, and a completion date is projected for fall 2024.

HUTTO ISD Trustees voted to adopt a district tax rate of $1.3929 per $100 valuation for scal year 2022-23 at an Aug. 25 meeting. The rate consists of $0.9429 for maintenance and operations, which funds most district operations, and $0.45 for the interest and sinking, or debt service portion. The $1.3929 rate is a decrease from the FY 2021-22 rate of $1.4203. However, district materials indicate the average homeowner can expect an annual increase of approximately $368 in their tax bill due to rising property values. District sta recommended a rate of $1.4029, but the board opted to lower the interest and sinking rate by $0.01. Several trustees expressed a desire to lower the rate further, but they said that would leave the dis- trict unable to fund vital projects. “I think the public needs to be aware that we have a tremendous

HUTTO ISD District employees continue to have paid COVID-19 leave this school year following action from the district’s board of trustees. At an Aug. 11 meeting, the Hutto ISD board of trustees approved a resolution granting up to ve days of COVID-19 leave for teachers and sta through June 20, 2023. Employees qualify for leave if they or an immediate family member test positive for COVID-19 and can provide a lab-certied test. The ve-day period is consistent with the Texas Education Agency’s isolation guidelines for teachers and students who test positive for COVID-19.
