STORY CREATION John Truman’s business Nebular Films is all about telling a story, a process that starts with an open mind, he said.
people can buy cameras. It’s about your relation- ship with the customer. Most of my clients come from referrals. I don’t promote myself, so good customer service and quality products are the best ways to get new business.” Creating partnerships Truman said he loves to partner with new people to make creative videos. One of his favorite recent projects is called “Cinematic Spotlight” with The Montgomery County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, which is a series of short videos and interviews with the members of the chamber. “I’m having a lot of fun with that project because it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” he said. “They gave me full creative liberty, and following them around to see where they work, what they do—it’s a lot of fun.” Truman said he is a self-taught videographer. He learned the trade by shadowing lmmakers and videographers, watching YouTube videos, and attending workshops. After opening Nebular Films, he said all the proceeds from the rst two years went toward investing in equipment. His company took o in 2019, Truman said. “That’s when we started getting busy on a weekly basis,” he said. “We used to do maybe one or two videos a week. Now, we’ve done close to 300, ... and hearing people talk about my videos, it’s fullling. I love touching people’s lives through my storytelling and making an impact in my commu- nity at the same time.”

That’s where he said he found a passion for videography. “Ever since I was a kid, my mom always told me I was always making up stories,” he said. “I’ve always liked the storytelling side of things, and that’s what Nebular Films is a full-service video production company that opened in 2017. Truman said the business focuses mostly on commercial, entertain- ment, corporate and creative production. Although his services branch beyond Houston, he said his main clientele is in The Woodlands. Truman said the rst step of any video process is conducting a strategy meeting with a client. Once a goal is established, he conducts an interview, creates a B-roll of additional footage, edits the piece and then brings the nal product to the client. Truman said his company’s customer service throughout that process is one of the things that sets his business apart from other media produc- tion companies in the area. “Anyone can make videos,” he said. “A lot of
