Round Rock progresses water park expansion Round Rock City Council approved a maximum price amendment for the Rock’N River expansion at its meeting Dec. 19, pushing forward the water park project. The $19.3 million expansion is a part of the bigger Old Settlers Park buildout project. The gist New features for the water park include a “total action” river, a VIP lounge area with space for rental and an additional pool. This portion of Old Settlers Park also includes two new parking lots with about 160 additional parking spaces. The expansion will increase the current capacity of 1,600 by about 600, and the city has plans to keep the original water park open while construct- ing the new additions. Sports center project hits milestone A project to expand the Round Rock Sports Center reached a milestone in Decem- ber as crews installed the rst concrete panels to form the facility’s new walls. The gist Construction on the facility, part of a $274 million bond approved in 2023, began in July. The expansion will add two basketball courts, a secondary entrance, championship court seating and more parking. The project will also allow the facility, located at 2400 Chisholm Trail in Round Rock, to increase its rental opportunities. The city o ers 276 hours of playtime weekly at the center but receives requests for 340 hours a week, a news release states. Construction is expected to wrap up by 2026, although the center remains open.
City annexes land for Sauls Ranch East Round Rock City Council approved Jan. 9 the annexation of a 55-acre tract where the Sauls Ranch East development is planned. The details City Council approved the annexation and rezoned the development to a single-family mixed zoning, made up of 123 lots. The city will be responsible for the associated roads, sidewalks, water infrastructure and sanitary sewage utilities.
Developer looks to alter The District designs The developers of the 65.5-acre mixed-use project The District are seeking the city of Round Rock’s approval for another design plan update. The city’s Planning & Zoning Commission gave initial approval for these updates Jan. 15, but the fourth major change to the development plan will requires nal approval from City Council. What you need to know The potential update includes a change to what will be the development’s designated main street from the future Marshall Circle to District Way. Marshall Circle is planned to be an internal loop within the development, whereas District Way will connect the development to both Greenlawn and Louis Henna boulevards, a city report shows. The central portion of the development, previ- ously planned to include a network of paseos, will also be changed to a street connection aligning the

two points of District Way through the site. The report states that east of District Way will be a high-density multifamily housing development. What they’re saying Phase 1 of the development, which will be multifamily housing with retail, is expected to be completed in Q1 of 2027, barring any permitting delays, said Bob Boone, Mark IV Capital’s vice president of development and asset management. It isn’t yet clear what the end product may be, as market demand guides the developer, Boone said.
