Habitat for Humanity marks 35 years of local service
Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County, a nonpro t that builds homes for those in need, is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. Over the past 35 years, the nonpro t has built and repaired more than 300 homes in the area, development and marketing coordinator Ashlie Pair said in an email. The nonpro t has its admin- istrative o ces in Conroe. The details Founded in 1989, the organization advocates for a ordable housing in Montgomery County by: • Constructing and renovating homes • Helping families achieve home ownership • Using thousands of volunteers to help with e orts “Through these e orts, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County ... has not only addressed immediate housing needs but has also fostered a more resilient and empowered community over the decades,” Pair said. Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County has multiple di erent programs and initiatives that impact the area, such as a home repair program, which assists homeowners with critical repairs like plumbing, roo ng or electrical work. It also provides workshops on topics such as nancial literacy, home maintenance and budgeting for homeowners.
What’s happening? Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County is currently building 11 houses at Cedar Creek, a 37-acre community located o of 7th Street in Conroe that will be made up of houses built by the organization, Pair said. Cedar Creek will house 129 families by its completion in 2026, Pair said. The busiest time of the year began on Sept. 12 when work starts on ve new houses to be completed in the spring, Pair said. As of October, a total of 113 were built and four lots were remaining to be started in fall 2025. The nonpro t also plans to build 201 homes near Magnolia on 81 acres of donated land, Pair said. A centerpiece of the community will be two naturally intertwining trees, which Pair said symbolizes neighbors coming together and living in harmony.
