EDUCATION BRIEFS GISD trustees hire Devin Padavil as superintendent

Georgetown ISD board of trustees will meet Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Hammerlun Center for Leadership and Learning at 507 E. University Ave., Georgetown. 512-943-5000. www.georgetownisd.org MEETINGS WE COVER classroom space, construction on Elementary School No. 12 has been put on hold, so the district has used bond funding meant for that project to pay for a new portable building at Wolf Ranch Elementary School. GISD is also in the process of getting additional portables set up at other schools throughout the district. HIGHLIGHTS GEORGETOWN ISD Around $342 million is now tied up in construction and technology projects in Georgetown ISD, most of which stem from the district’s 2021 bond election. The funding has allowed the district to begin construction on new schools and a future-ready complex, while projects to install new sunshades and heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment at some campuses have been completed. GEORGETOWN ISD District ocials concluded the search for a new superintendent Aug. 7 with the hiring of Devin Padavil. The gist: The GISD board of trust- ees, absent Place 1 Trustee James Scherer, voted unanimously to hire Padavil to lead the district as its next superintendent. The background: GISD began its search for a new superintendent after Fred Brent announced his retirement in April. Brent served as superintendent for nine years after moving to Georgetown in 2014. The board hired Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates to help lead the search for GISD’s new leader. Trustees along with representatives of the ˆrm conducted interviews with potential candidates throughout June and July, after an online survey was conducted wherein

the district heard from more than 1,000 community members. Padavil was named the district’s lone ˆnalist as a result of its superintendent search July 17. Board President Elizabeth McFarland said she was “absolutely thrilled” to introduce Padavil as the lone ˆnalist.

Career history: Padavil previously served as the superintendent for Taylor ISD, taking over the position in January 2021. He also worked as an assistant superintendent and area superintendent in Fort Bend ISD and Leander ISD, respectively. Prior to that, he taught English and social studies in schools throughout Texas.
