81-acre development planned for Pflugerville Plans for an 81-acre tract along the SH 45 and SH 130 corridor in Pflugerville will combine residen- tial options, commercial services and green space within a single multipurpose location. The breakdown Kimley-Horn developers received the first green light Oct. 24 from Pflugerville City Council for a planned unit development rezoning along the cor- ridor. Plans for the area—to be known as Chisholm Station—include building townhomes, improving the existing greenbelt, and offering business and retail services. According to Kimley-Horn devel- opment standards for the project, the mixed-use section focuses on a pedestrian-friendly design to enhance the overall experience. In addition to the mixed-use section of the plans, developers have partnered with the Pfluger- ville Parks and Recreation Department to preserve
Pflugerville council approves cell tower Pflugerville City Council approved permit- ting Oct. 10 for a new cell tower along SH 130 meant to improve cell phone service. What’s happening City Council approved a specific-use permit for a new wireless telecommunica- tion facility on property just behind Point of Grace Lutheran Church, east of FM 685 and north of Murchison Ridge Trail. According to city officials, the 120-foot tower should improve signal strength for the Stone Hill and Falcon Pointe area. Though AT&T officials have taken the lead on construction for the tower, there is room for three different carrier antennas. The tower will also be a FirstNet site—a network built in partnership with AT&T to support first-responder communication.

Enrollment decline to persist through 2024-25 Pflugerville ISD’s 2023-24 school year enroll- ment is expected to be 300 students lower than projected, a new student demographics report shows. This is even lower than the projected decline, which is expected to persist through the 2024-25 school year. In a nutshell Templeton Demographics Vice President Bob Templeton said Oct. 5. that the potential of vouch- er-like programs could result in some difficulty estimating enrollment for future years. Enrollment has become a concern for many school districts in recent years, as one of the primary methods for calculating state funding is based on the average daily attendance of students. In addition to the shortage of 300 students for the 2023-24 school year, just over 2,500 students living within the district attend other schools in the area.
Bilingual student population growing Pflugerville ISD’s population of students designated as emergent bilingual has grown to represent 27% of students. What’s happening? Alejandro Mojica, PfISD’s director of multilingual education, said on Oct. 5 the growth in students continuing to learn their native language while also learning English has happened as the district’s overall enroll- ment has slowed. Overall enrollment even declined during the 2023-24 school year.

Hutto ISD released four potential scenarios for rezoning Oct. 19, in anticipation of the opening of Gus Almquist Middle School in 2024. What’s happening? District staff are working with community members and district demographers to adjust boundaries and rebalance zoning for its campuses. All but one of the options, Plan 4, show one of the district’s three middle schools reaching capacity by the 2027-28 and 2028-19 school years, according to district projections. Trustees will provide feedback on these options Nov. 9. Community members can provide feed- back on these options at www.hipponation.org.
