The impact According to a news release, local members have raised over $400,000 in grants for organizations such as Hope Center Houston and mentored more than 5,000 local high school students through the branch’s Summit Program. In addition to participating in philanthropic projects, members gather to have fun and socialize. “We understand that women have many roles to ll and often little spare time,” former president Liz Wilson said in the release. “Our members span many ages and come from all walks of life. Some members come mainly to socialize, while others thrive by contributing to the community at large.”
Next steps NHCAAUW is open to anyone with an associate’s degree or equivalent, bachelor’s degree or higher degree. The branch is hosting a luncheon for new and prospective members in the Cypress Creek area Aug. 16. Email Katherine Crocker at katgracecroc@outlook.com for additional details.
AAUW, founded in 1881, has branches in every state and over 170,000 members and supporters nationwide with a mission to advance gender equity through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. The North Harris County branch is over 50 years old, and some of its members helped establish entities like the Barbara Bush Branch Library at Cypress Creek, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts, Cypress Creek EMS and the Mercer Arboretum.
