2026 bond considered to fund Leander HS upgrades The Leander ISD board of trustees discussed the possibility of a 2026 bond Feb. 19 that could fund the next phase of modernization projects at Leander High School. ESA applications exceed funding

Thousands of students who apply for Texas’ education savings accounts will likely not be accepted into the first year of the program, data from the state comptrol- ler’s office shows. The $1 billion program is aimed at expanding educational options beyond public schools. Applications will be prior- itized through a need- and income-based lottery system. Zooming in Over 160,000 students had applied for the program as of March 9, including a total of 587 students in LHISD and 1,712 in LISD. Program funding is capped at $1 billion for the 2026-27 school year, meaning around 100,000 students will likely be accepted.

Career and Technical Education addition

Phase 1 began in 2024 and includes additions and modernizations to the athletic facilities and performance art center, funded by the 2023 bond. Work is expected to be completed this summer. Phase 2 funding is contingent upon a Novem- ber bond, if called by the board of trustees and approved by voters. LISD officials said Phase 2 would be split into two parts and is preliminarily set to begin in 2027 and be wrapped up by summer 2031. The campus lacks cohesive circulation, includ- ing fragmented building additions, site and organizational constraints, and requires more than just system replacements to improve functions, Chief Operations Officer Jeremy Trimble said.
