Prosper residents can expect to see higher water and wastewater bills starting Oct. 15. At their Sept. 16 meeting, Prosper Town Council members approved an ordinance raising residential water and wastewater rates as part of adopting the 2025-26 fiscal year budget. The new rates include: • Water: $88.53 to $94.01 per 13,000 gallons of water—a 6% increase • Wastewater: $72.70 to $83.69 per 7,000 gallons of wastewater—a 15% increase Although rates are increasing, town staff said the new rates will “compare well” with nearby cities. Town staff are projecting rate increases for the next few years, including a 13.77% increase for water and 17.96% increase for wastewater. Prosper council increases water, wastewater rates

build last year. Once the plant’s expansion is complete it will increase efficiency and save costs, officials said. Construction of the plant is expected to be completed by early 2028.
“We’ve been trying to absorb those costs as we can. We do expect, at least for the near future, to have to increase those.” Additionally, Landrum said the town is also facing higher costs for the areas new water plant, which Prosper and Celina partnered to
Prosper’s budget director Chris Landrum said Sept. 16 the town is facing nearly a 15% increase in the costs it pays for water, which is part of the reason for the increased rates. “Last year was the first year since 2020 that we did increase the rates,” Landrum said.
