dementia, but what we can do is set a person up [in] an environment that brings back those memories,” he said of creating familiar spaces. Quote of note Dixon said the facility is “state-of-the-art,” which has contributed to the business winning the Best of McKinney award for senior care from the chamber of commerce ve years straight since 2020. “This is next level stu, and nobody has built anything like this, but everybody should because that’s the one thing we can do, is create a comfort- able environment for folks,” he said. Looking ahead While about 10 residents will move into the new homes by the end of the year, all 48 rooms in the expansion are expected to be lled by mid-2025. Teresa’s House has another location in Argyle, and Dixon said they are considering opening a third location but are limiting growth so the owners can remain hands-on. “We don’t want to be the biggest, we just want to be the best,” Dixon said.

The business also added 40 employees, bringing its total sta to 90. The decor and focal points are intended to bring back memories, Dixon said, as familiar items are also comforting to residents with dementia. “You can’t cure Alzheimer’s, you can’t cure

The expansion added three new homes and an activity center directly to the southwest of the existing campus.
