United Airlines has announced plans to mod- ernize and expand Terminal B at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The proposal, shared during a meeting of Houston City Council’s Eco- nomic Development Committee, aims to enhance capacity and improve the travel experience for United Airlines passengers. “With this project, we aim to elevate the airport experience from a four-star to a ve-star level, enhancing passenger satisfaction and further solidifying our position as a top-tier airport,” said Jim Szczesniak, chief operating ocer for the Houston Airport System. Houston outlined his decision in an email to SJRA sta citing House Bill 1540 that—under an amendment that was subsequently removed by the Texas Senate—would have required the board to appoint a new general manager. Houston said in a statement his last day is June 30, and the board appointed Ed Shackelford, the SJRA’s director of operations, as the acting general manager June 22.
