Construction wraps up on new AISD elementary Construction has finished on Argyle ISD’s newest campus, Jane Ruestmann Elementary, which will serve prekindergarten through fifth grade students. The campus is part of the 2022 bond package, which funded building new schools to accommo- date the expected enrollment increases over the next decade, according to the district’s 10-year strategic plan. The campus is situated along Cleveland Gibbs Road in Northlake. The gist The district was able to expedite construction and plans to have a certificate of occupancy by July, per district documents. The district began moving staff belongings to Jane Ruestmann on July 15, which will allow teachers to set up before school starts, Construc- tion Manager Jeff Koehn said.
Argyle ISD officials refute Title IX changes Argyle ISD refuted federal changes to Title IX aimed at expanding protections for LGBTQ+ and pregnant students. On July 15, trustees approved a resolution denouncing the new regulations, saying they undermine student rights and protections. The details District officials took issue with a mandate that “prohibits schools from treating or sep- arating students differently based on their biological sex,” including gender identity. The language in the changes contradict a 2021 state law that mandates athletes play on teams based on the sex listed on their original birth certificate, officials said. The Title IX changes are on hold in Texas, which has taken action to halt implementa- tion at various court levels.

“The timeline is exciting,” board President Sam Slaton said. “It’s fortunate that the teachers will be able to get in on time.” Going forward After the new school opens in August, the district plans to hold a formal dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the campus Sept. 25, Superintendent Courtney Carpenter said. Jane Ruestmann, the school’s namesake and a former AISD teacher of more than 40 years, will be in attendance.
