FEATURED IMPACT COMING SOON The Pearland Economic Development Corp. and Syzygy Plasmonics announced May 16 the company leased a 44,800-square-foot building at 3250 S. Sam Houston Parkway, Pearland, for its new headquarters, development and manufacturing facility. “We are commercializing technology that produces low- and zero-carbon chemicals, fuels and fertilizers at a reasonable cost,” Syzygy Plasmonics CEO Trevor Best said in a PEDC news release. “The facility at Pearland gives us space for testing, further development and product manufacturing while oering easy access to the highway system.” Syzygy Plasmonics was founded in 2018. The company has won awards for its technology, which is based on photocatalysis, a process in which light helps accelerate a chemical reaction. According to the release, Syzygy Plasmonics uses LED light led by renewable electricity to perform chemical reactions. The technology electries production of chemicals, including hydrogen and fertilizers. Syzygy aims to prevent a gigaton of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere by 2040, according to the release. “We’re excited about advancing energy

expansion, and we’re happy to have found a great space to grow in Pearland,” Best said. The PEDC and Pearland ocials have worked with Syzygy Plasmonics on relocating to the city from 9000 Kirby Drive, Houston, since 2021. The 12,500-square-foot station is expected to cost $6.9 million and is aiming for completion by May 2023.
