Tomball Economic Development Corp. hits 30 years
A $47,614 TEDC grant approved in 2021 helped fund LSC- Tomball Community Library’s teen space renovations.
The Tomball Economic Development Corp. is celebrating 30 years this year. Established in November 1994, the TEDC is governed by a board appointed by City Council. “I feel like it’s really taken 30 years to build our identity,” Executive Director Kelly Violette said. Looking back The TEDC was created pursuant to the Texas Development Corporation Act of 1979, according to its website. Violette said after several citizens spearheaded its creation, the TEDC focused its early e orts on funding infrastructure. The impact The TEDC is funded with a half-cent sales
tax, equating to around $4.5 million-$5 million annually, Violette said. The TEDC’s grants can help businesses lease space or fund projects. Last May, the nal lot sold in the Tomball Busi- ness & Technology Park, a TEDC project that has generated over 500 jobs and more than $85 million in capital investment since 2015, per prior reporting. Going forward The TEDC’s projects underway include a sum- mer youth employment program, the First Baptist Church campus, the South Live Oak Industrial Park and helping fund the city’s alleyway project. “It’s incredible to me to sit back and go, ‘Look at all of this coming together,’” Violette said. “It’s such an exciting time to be in Tomball.”
