Pugerville announces 22nd elementary name

PFLUGERVILLE ISD Pugerville ISD’s future Elementary No. 22 will be named in honor of a former teacher who dedicated more than 16 years of teaching to the district, PfISD’s board of trustees revealed Oct. 15. The district’s 22nd elementary school will ocially be named Jessica Carpenter Elementary School following a unanimous board vote. PfISD received a total of 613 name recommendations for Elementary No. 22 and Middle School No. 7, district ocials said Oct. 15, with 117 submissions for Jessica Carpenter. Carpenter served more than 16 of her 20-year teaching career at PfISD, most recently working as a special education resources teacher at Brookhollow Elementary School. Carpenter died Sept. 10 after a four-year battle with Stage 4 esophageal cancer. Aaron Carpenter—Carpenter’s husband—thanked the board and the PfISD community for their kindness and support following Carpenter’s death. “The goal of equity and inclusion is to create space for everyone to be heard even if they are not agreed with, and this cannot be achieved if certain voices are muted or marginalized,” Street said in the release. The RRISD board of trustees approved in August spending $1.2 million to establish an RRISD Oce of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion with six full-time positions. Street will lead the department.

Her funeral was marked by an outpouring of former students, colleagues and parents paying their respects, Aaron Carpenter said. “She lived to teach,” Aaron Carpenter said, adding: “Ever since she was a girl—having been inuenced herself by one of her elementary school teachers to pursue the art of education for the betterment of her community—that is all that she had ever wanted to do.”

Sora catalogs HISD’s classroom materials and Hutto Public Library’s juvenile and youth collection and “education-specic tools” to assist teachers, per the release. “By partnering with the Hutto Pub- lic Library, Hutto ISD students now have access to thousands of more eBooks and audiobooks,” said Angela Hartman, the district lead librarian at Hutto ISD, in the release.

HUTTO ISD Hutto ISD and the Hutto Public Library have collaborated to increase digital learning resources, e-books and audiobooks to students under student reading app Sora. The partnership aims to enhance online learning initiatives by consolidating the two libraries’ collections into one digital space, according to a district news release.
