Council OKs artist, mural for Fire Station No. 3 Celina’s incoming re station will soon feature a mural. Celina City Council members approved the art project and its artist during a Feb. 13 meeting. The nal mural is expected to be slightly dier- ent from the concept, namely because Celina’s re department started with volunteers and would not have worn the uniforms depicted in the black-and- white half of the mural, council member Brandon Grumbles said. “Put a little cowboy hat on [the reghters in the mural], and you’ll be alright,” Grumbles said. A selection panel assembled for the mural in November reviewed artist submissions and decided artist Odessa Helm

Prosper updates no-parking rules

A special event ordinance will now allow Prosper police to enforce no-parking zones going forward, ocials said. Prosper Town Council members added a new parking-specic section to the town’s ordinance regarding special events and temporary outdoor seasonal sales during a Feb. 13 meeting. The main takeaway The new section specically addresses congestion caused by temporary parking for special events, according to a statement included in meeting documents. “You can imagine if cars are parked willy-nilly, or blocking personal property or whatever, it could be a safety issue as well,” Parks and Recreation Director Dan Baker said. “You can’t get emergency services in.”

The mural concept was approved but will likely be adjusted slightly, council members said.

Selection panel members included: • Three Arts and Culture board members • Celina resident David Barnes • Fire Chief Mark Metdker • Council member Andy Hopkins “The panel felt strongly that Odessa would be the one to carry this project forward,” Satarino said. Fire Station No. 3 is located at the intersection of Ballenger Road and FM 1385 in Sutton Fields.

Future station locations

Fire Station No. 3 will be the newest addition to the re eet with the next 11 additional re station sites already bookmarked to plan for the department’s growth, Fire Chief Mark Metdker said. “[Buying land now] ensures station sites will be ready for construction when development occurs,” City Manager Robert Ranc said in an email. Metdker said additional re stations are needed to account for distance and population density. “New stations … allow our residents to live comfortably and rest easily knowing that public safety is a priority in our community—no matter how much Celina grows through the years,” Mayor Ryan Tubbs said in an email. Response times to west Celina from stations No. 1 and No. 2 are usually 12-15 minutes, Metdker said. Once No. 3 opens, those times should be cut to 5-8 minutes, he said. “Right now we have longer response times than we would like to,” Tubbs said at a Jan. 23 State of the Community event. “When minutes matter, public safety matters.”

The breakdown

Going forward

Demographic estimates compiled by the city expect Celina’s population to reach more than 300,000 residents once it is fully developed in the next few decades—similar to Plano, which has 13 re stations. “Plano is my model department that I watch,” Metdker said. “We’re very much like the city of Plano as far as re departments go.”

Both Celina’s active and planned re stations show city leaders’ commitment to public safety, Tubbs said in an emailed statement. Celina will need 15 stations by the time it is fully developed and is on track to open a new one every three years, Metdker said. Each station needs at least 18 reghters, which have already been hired for Station No. 3, he said.

A grand opening for Fire Station No. 3 is expected be held sometime in late March.

ALEX REECECOMMUNITY IMPACT

Diving deeper

Division Chief Justin Beamis, who has been with the Celina Fire Department for over a decade, said Fire Station No. 3 is a milestone for the department. “I never in my wildest dreams when I started o as a volunteer here would expect to be where we’re at right now,” he said. Hammers said he and multiple Sutton Fields residents will attend the station’s grand opening once a date is announced. “We want to show them our gratitude,” he said. “These guys are heroes.”

Celina's population

The goal is to have a re station within 5 driving miles of every resident, Metdker said. More re stations can improve a city’s Insurance Services Oce rating by reducing response times, said John Riddle, president of the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters, in an email. The Insurance Services Oce is an organization that scores re departments on how they are doing to determine residents’ and business owners’ property insurance costs.

Dallas-Fort Worth to host nine 2026 FIFA World Cup matches

AT&T Stadium matches

Mexico City will host the 2026 World Cup’s opening match June 11. Toronto will open the tournament for Canada on June 12. Los Angeles will host the U.S. opener on June 13. The final match will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, officials announced Feb. 4. Leading into the final, the bronze medal semi-final match will be hosted in Miami. Zooming in Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney said the regional mayors typically compete against each other for projects but the World Cup has joined the region. Soccer is a major asset to Frisco with FC Dallas calling the city home along with the National Soccer Hall of Fame, Cheney said. In preparation for the matches, Frisco has poured $100 million into The Rail District, he said. With nine matches being held in the region, FC Dallas President Dan Hunt said it increases the likelihood of visiting teams to choose neighboring

AT&T Stadium, located in Arlington, will host nine matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, officials announced Feb. 4. Following FIFA’s match schedule announce- ment, local officials including mayors from Frisco, Fort Worth, Dallas and Arlington discussed the collaboration that went into cinching the matches. “Nine games is bringing a whole lot of money to the North Texas area,” Arlington Mayor Jim Ross said. In a nutshell Dallas-Fort Worth is hosting more matches than any other city during the tournament. “We now have the opportunity to host the world,” Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said. “There is a real opportunity to showcase what the city has become. This is the Dallas we want the world to see and they are going to see that in 2026.” In 1994, Dallas served as a World Cup host city with matches played at the Cotton Bowl Stadium.

areas as home cities. He mentioned that Frisco has locations that may be of interest including Toyota Stadium, which is the home stadium for FC Dallas. The World Cup will impact Frisco’s families for generations, Cheney said. “In Frisco, it’s going to mean so much more even after we host the games,” Cheney said.

Shades of Green employees are passionate about plants and gardening, Wardell said. “They want to work in the plant industry,” Wardell said. “We have a very knowledgeable sta, and probably within the last year, we’ve had the most knowledgeable sta I’ve ever worked with.” Additionally, Shades of Green specializes in plant species native to North Texas. Educate Not Indoctrinate

I believe our schools are meant for education, not indoctrination. Many special interest groups hate this message; that’s why I am the only self-funded candidate. I don’t want your money, but I do want your vote. Help me send a message at the Republican Primary in March. See you there! Hi! My name is Dr. Matt Rostami . I am an eye surgeon in Frisco and I escaped the cold and high taxes of NJ to establish my own practice, Lone Star Eye Specialists. As much as I love to mock liberals for dodging accountability, as conservatives, we must not run from it. We have to grow our party, and I am going to start with the youth.
