EXPANSIONS 9 The Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital at 16100 Hwy. 288 will start construction sometime in 2023 on a new $18.4 million expansion project. The expansion will consist of adding space on the second floor for 33 new beds, adding two intensive care unit beds, relocating 10 ICU beds and adding 21 universal beds, totaling 97 beds in the hospital upon com- pletion. the first phase of a mixed-use develop- ment called Ivy at Lower Kirby, which is proposed to include offices, a retirement center, apartments, townhomes and retail stores, according to the release. A public park and trail system is included in the development. www.lowerkirby.com The final phase of the $24.1 million Hwy. 288 improvement project began in early 2022 and should be completed in the coming year. The improvements to the corridor include additional land- scape elements, irrigation, lighting, water fountains, new pear sculptures, and sidewalks and gateway markers from Beltway 8 to Magnolia Parkway. Some pear sculptures have already been installed along the highway. FEATURED IMPACT COMING SOON Houston City Council approved a food and beverage concessions contract with LaTrelle’s Galley LP for 10 new restaurants at the Hobby Airport . Some of the new concession locations will include Common Bond Bakery and Bistro, Dish Society, Pink’s Pizza, Jersey Mike’s Subs, The Rustic and Wendy’s, according to a Jan. 4 news release. The agreement is expected to create nearly 300 jobs across the new facilities. The release stated the 10-year agreement with LaTrelle’s Galley is projected to generate as much as $74

million for Houston Airports. The new management team is expected to begin its transition into the airport’s concessions program in April. Houston City Council will review a second concessions contract for Hobby Airport in the coming months, the release stated.
