The rst expansion to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in nearly two decades will start in early 2024. Airport ocials announced plans in May 2019 to construct Terminal F, but when the pandemic hit the next year, CEO Sean Donohue announced the project would be put on hold. In May 2023, the airport and American Airlines ocials signed a 10-year use and lease agreement on a $4.8 billion project that would construct Terminal F, the rst addition of a new terminal since 2005. Expansion of the central terminal area will include a major reimagining of Terminal C, “pier” expansions o Terminal A and Terminal C, and signicant upgrades to roadways and terminal access. Construction of a new Terminal F will feature a 15-gate concourse with modernized baggage handling, expanded concessions and additional passenger gates. $4.8B project to expand facilities

The backstory
What’s next
The Texas House of Representatives passed a bill to create the North Texas Regional Airport Author- ity in 1967, according to the Texas House Historical Association. The authority led to the creation of the airport, which broke ground in 1968 near the city limits of Euless, Irving and Grapevine. Later, Coppell would also house portions of the airport.
DFW Airport is celebrating a milestone anni- versary next year as Jan. 13, 2024, will mark 50 years since its rst commercial ight. The airport was ocially dedicated on Sept. 22, 1973, when a Concorde jet from France landed in the U.S. for the rst time, according to airport spokesperson Cynthia Vega.
The new terminal is expected to add up to 25 gates beyond DFW Airport’s 2023 total. Airport ocials expect the numbers of travelers ying in and out to increase as well.
