In April 2022, the bord reviewed nother controversil book, “Gender Queer,” nd moved it rom the teen section to the dult section. In the end, Hicks decided to bring  resolution beore council prohibit- ing the city rom spending tx dollrs on “obscene” mteril intended or minors t the librry. Topics consid- ered obscene under the resolution, which pssed Dec. 6, include pedo- phili; incest; rpe; bondge; nd sex, nudity nd sexul preerence in books with n intended udience o those less thn 10 yers old. “Gender ideology” nd “ideologue humn sexulity” were originlly prt o the list o topics considered obscene but were removed beore pprovl. Mny residents opposed this res- olution, climing it ws n ttempt t restricting children rom red- ing books bout LGBTQ topics.
