The Allen R. Baca Center offers a wide variety of programming designed to meet the needs of Round Rock’s active 50+ population. Programs focus on physical activity, social engagement, education, arts, creativity, and healthy lifestyles. These programs are designed to serve adults of all abilities -those who are physically active, those who are just becoming active, and pro- grams for those who have age-related limita- tions. Many of our members boast about making meaningful social connections, losing weight, increasing flexibility and balance, and traveling to regional destinations. Join the fun if you’re 50+!

Conveniently located in downtown Round Rock, the Allen R. Baca Center has been serving the community since 2005. In addition to the daily, weekly and monthly scheduled activities, classes, programs, meetings and outings, Baca offers opportunities for drop-in play and daily meals offered through the Oppor- tunities for Williamson-Burnet Counties (OWBC) nutrition program. At Baca, you never know what we might be cele- brating, so come and visit. Whether you come for a class or stay all day, you can still get carded at the Baca Center!

FACILITY HOURS OF OPERATION Monday-Thursday: 5:00am – 10:00pm Friday: 5:00am – 9:00pm Clay Madsen Recreation Center (CMRC) is a 55,000 square foot comprehensive recreation facility. Constructed in 2000, the facility is designed to provide all-inclusive recreational opportunities with a variety of features to meet the needs of the City of Round Rock and surrounding communities.

The Clay Madsen Recreation Center was maned after an inspiring young man who fought a courageous battle against cancer. CMRC strives to be a safe place where children, adults and families have a safe and fun location to play, learn, develop and recreate while learning the leadership and sportsmanship qualities that Clay Madsen upheld throughout his life. CMRC houses two full size gymnasiums, six lane 25 yard lap pool, four racquetball courts, cardio weight room, the yard (functional fitness training area, game room, outdoor covered sport courts, indoor walk/jog track and more! The CMRC Membership includes general access to all the facility amenities including our group exercise classes (floor and aqua). Additional classes/ser- vices including sports leagues, lessons, personal training, arts and enrichment, afterschool, sum- mer camps and more are offered for extra fees.

CRAFTY CRITTERS Crafters meet to socialize, sew, knit, craft and create their own items/crafts. Join the group to create your own crafts with your supplies or create items for the group to sell with provided supplies. This crafty group makes beanies for preemies, quilts, scarves and many more items that are donated to non-profit groups or sold at various craft sales. You can find many of their craft items in the Baca display cases to purchase. The group hosts craft sales in the Baca lobby several times a year. Ages 50+. MACRAME PLANT WORKSHOP – 24-10106WS Our past workshop was so popular, we are offering it again. The workshop will teach the 4 basic knots needed to make a basic macrame plant hanger. Dance & Music GUITAR GROUP

Members can join the Guitar Group on Mondays 9:00-11:00 am in the Music Room. This group plays a variety of popular music selected by the participants. The music is “by ear” generally using lyrics and chord charts. Acoustic and electrified instruments and those who only sing are welcome. The group is for experienced players and is not instructional. Ages 50+. LET’S DANCE – 24-10101LD Calling all the single ladies, men – and couples! Enjoy an evening filled with dancing, mingling with friends and making new ones at “Let’s Dance”. This social dance features a DJ with a wide variety of music, with requests also accepted. In December, entertainment will feature a Baca Center favorite, The Whitestone Band. Attendees are invited to bring their own beverages and snacks to partake in. Registra- tion fee is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. SING-A-LONG The sing-a-long group and our famous piano player Walter Tibbits join together to sing show tunes, country and pop music from the 20th Century. This course is designed specifically for drivers 50+. The course enables drivers to get a 10% discount for 3 years on most insurance plans. Please check with your insurance provider. The Baca Center offers several types of bridge games for all abilities. Derived from the game of Whist, all games have 4 players, two against two. Stop by the Baca Center to play various types of bridge including duplicate, evening and bridge for fun. All groups get the opportunity to learn or improve their bridge playing skills. *Advanced play and must have a partner. Ages 50+. Join the Baca Center for our newest game, 9 Square In The Air, which combines volleyball and 4 Square, and can be played standing or sitting. The game is easy to learn, with instructions given at the start of each play time. The object is to advance through the 9 squares of the game to the center square and re- main there for as long as possible. A player is out for not returning the ball to another player’s square; hitting the ball outside the structure; or double hitting the ball. Play will begin as standing and non-competitive to get everyone familiar with the game. Come join the fun! Ages 50+. The chair provides support and stability, allowing the student to experience a yoga class where poses are easily accessible. A chair yoga practice will benefit students in many of the same ways as a mat practice, improving flexibility, strength, circulation, range of motion, balance, posture, breathing and a calming of the mind. GRANNY BASKETBALL® This program is a gentle game for women of a certain age (50+). Team uniforms resemble the original girls’ basketball uniforms in the 1920s. The ladies play 1920s style, six-on-six Granny Basketball. The group plays four other Texas teams and is currently undefeated. The team consists of 12+ players, 2 coaches and 3 referees. All training and strategies are provided with an emphasis on NO RUNNING OR JUMPING in the game. Weekly prac- tices will be held at Clay Madsen Recreation Center and games with the other Texas teams will be in Georgetown or Harker Heights. PICKLEBALL Pickleball is a fun sport and great form of exercise that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. SPECIAL INTEREST ART CLUB

The Center Art Club of Round Rock exists to develop and explore the creativity of its members, provide social interaction among artists, promote member artists’ work through various exhibit opportunities, and to encourage skills growth through demonstrations by visiting artists. Membership is open to both new and experi- enced artists of all disciplines, who are 50 and over. Membership in the Center Art Club of Round Rock requires a $15 annual fee paid to the club and a Baca Center membership. The first Wednesday meetings are a business meeting, art show & tell, and installing new art in the halls of the Baca Center. VETERANS WALL OF HONOR The Baca Center will be creating a “Wall of Honor” to celebrate and thank our veterans during the month of November. All veterans or family members of vet- erans are asked to provide a photo of the veteran in uniform. This photo can be emailed to kgaydos@roundrocktexas.gov or brought to the Baca Center during membership hours to be scanned and returned immediately.
