CSJ: 0598-02-111 • Brazoria County, Texas STATE HIGHWAY (SH) 288 FROM NORTH OF RODEO PALMS PARKWAY TO NORTH OF SH 6 Virtual Public Meeting with In-Person Option
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is improving State Highway (SH) 288 from US 59 near downtown Houston to County Road 60 in Harris and Brazoria Counties, Texas. The Environmental Assessment (EA) for this project received a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on May 23, 2013. Since the time of environmental approval, the design for a portion of this project has evolved, and some changes to the original design are now proposed. This notice advises the public that TxDOT will be conducting an online virtual public meeting with an in-person option in order to receive comments on the design additions being proposed. The virtual public meeting will be available on March 1, 2022, at 5:30 P.M. To log onto the virtual public meeting, go to the following web address at the date and time indicated above: www.txdot .gov , and type “ SH 288 from Rodeo” in the search box at the top-right corner of the webpage. The virtual public meeting will consist of a pre-recorded video presentation and will include both audio and visual components. Please note that the presentation will not be available on the meeting page until the time and date listed above. If you do not have internet access, you may call (713) 802-5766 between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, to ask questions and access project materials during the project development process. Formal comments may be provided by mail, online or email as explained below. Additionally, TxDOT is providing an in-person option for individuals who would like to participate in person, instead of online. In-person attendees will be able to view the same presentation delivered in the online public meeting, review hard copies of project materials, ask questions of TxDOT staff and/or consultants from a socially-distanced approach, and leave written comments. The in-person option will be held on March 3, 2022, from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Rodeo Palms Clubhouse, 33 Rodeo Drive, Manvel, Texas 77578. The original Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)- approved project proposed general improvements to SH 288 from US 59 near downtown Houston to County Road 60 for a distance of approximately 26 miles. This original project went through public involvement and environmental evaluation prior to the 2013 FONSI and portions have been constructed. This virtual public meeting addresses proposed design
changes to the environmentally cleared project. Historical information on the SH 288 project may be found on the virtual meeting webpage for those who want additional information. The purpose of the public meeting is to present the proposed design changes including construction of a two-lane southbound frontage road from north of Rodeo Palms Parkway to north of SH 6 and construction of four stormwater detention ponds. The proposed additions would occur within the existing TxDOT right-of-way (ROW) and would not result in any displacements. Maps showing the project location, drawings illustrating the proposed design, and other information regarding the proposed project will be available online at www.txdot .gov , keyword “ SH 288 from Rodeo” at the date and time listed above. The public meeting materials will be provided in English and Spanish. An interpreter or document translator will be provided upon request if English or Spanish is not your primary language and/or you have difficulty communicating effectively in English or Spanish. If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend the public meeting, please contact Susanna Scott , the Houston District Environmental Coordinator, at (713) 802-5766 or by email at Susanna.Scott@TxDOT.gov no later than 4:00 P.M. CT, February 28, 2022. Please be aware that advance notice is required as some services and accommodations may require time for TxDOT to arrange. Written comments from the public regarding the proposed project are requested and may be submitted by mail to the TxDOT Houston District Office, Advanced Project Development Director, P.O. Box 1386, Houston, TX 77251. Written comments may also be submitted by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or online at www.txdot .gov , keyword search “ SH 288 from Rodeo” .
