Ironman Texas renews local agreement The Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas North American Championship triathlon will continue to take place in The Woodlands after the current agreement expires in 2025, according to a news release from The Ironman Group. Ironman and Memorial Hermann entered into a multiyear extension to an agreement as title partners for the event, according to the release. What they’re saying “This is an important event for The Wood- lands community,” said Justin Kendrick, senior vice president and CEO for Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center and Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital. “Not only from a ˆnancial standpoint, but it also brings people from all ethnic backgrounds together to work together and support the participants and give back to their community.”

Oak Ridge North advances projects

Tomball ISD changes intermediate school plan Tomball ISD announced a new plan to expand Creekside Park Junior High School for ˆfth graders in the 2026-27 school year following months of parent backlash over the placement of a proposed intermediate school, according to a Dec. 15 email from the district. What you need to know TISD leaders outlined the new plan to build a two-story addition to CPJHS instead of a stand- alone intermediate school as previously proposed. The plan is expected to save the district about $20 million and also alleviate parent concerns about the proposed Intermediate School No. 5 increasing commute times from the Creekside area. “We have formulated a solution that we feel conˆdent will meet the needs of the district, the community and, most importantly, our students,” the email states.

Conroe ISD plans for 2024 projects The Conroe ISD board of trustees on Dec. 12 discussed how it will use more than $10 mil- lion in grant funds for safety improvements. The action taken Chris McCord, assistant superintendent of operations, said the state grant for school safety and facilities will allow the district to become compliant with a code requiring campuses to install safety elements, such as anti-scaling fencing, by August. Also on the agenda The board also on Dec. 12 assigned archi- tects for projects from the 2023 bond prop- osition. This includes new schools, campus renovations and master plans. O‚cials said some projects may be able to start in March.

Creekside Park

Oak Ridge North City Council members approved payments to contractors for construction work on major projects within the city Jan. 8. The details Funds designated include: • $82,685 for Robinson Road realignment construction materials • $659,021 for relocation of the public works and police departments According to Public Works Director James Corn, the concrete foundations for the buildings have been completed, and utility connection work is in progress. Both projects are expected to be com- pleted by the end of the year, o‚cials said.

How we got here Originally part of the 2021 TISD bond initiative as an elementary school, the new campus was planned to be built at the Tomball Innovation Center at Hufsmith-Kohrville Road and FM 2920. TISD o‚cials then amended the proposal to replace the proposed elementary school with an intermediate campus to relieve capacity issues for schools in the Creekside area, sparking parent backlash.

What to expect In 2023, The Woodlands event also became the site of the Americas Championship. According to the news release, the 2024 Memorial Hermann Ironman North American Championship Texas triathlon will include a 2.4-mile point-to-point swim in Lake Woodlands; a 112-mile two-loop bike race including a portion on the Hardy Toll Road; and a 26.2-mile marathon.
