County opposes rail district changes Montgomery County commissioners unanimously voted against a request Dec. 19 from the Gulf Coast Rail District regarding the addition of a full voting board seat for the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, or METRO. The context The GCRD is a cooperative between the city of Houston, Harris County and several other surrounding counties to consider potential high-speed railroad projects. METRO serves in a nonvoting capacity on the GCRD. “I am adamantly opposed to this as it ... will give [the GCRD] an edge to be able to move forward on [rail projects] that we just cannot allow,” Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said.
Work wrapping up on Research Forest Drive improvements Work on two projects to improve trac ow at Grogans Mill Road and Research Forest Drive was slated to wrap up in early 2024. The overview On the northern side of the intersection, the westbound acceleration lane from Grogans Mill Road to Research Forest Drive was completed in early 2023, and the westbound deceleration lane was underway as of November. The $240,000 project is being led and managed by Montgomery County Precinct 2. Project engineer John Bleyl said in an email in December that Entergy utility pole relocation had been completed, and work on the current phase would be completed in January.

What else? Meanwhile, Montgomery County Precinct 3 ocials also said work would wrap up in January to complete a $365,613 project started in early November. The work extends the Research Forest Drive eastbound right-turn lane onto southbound Grogans Mill Road and adds a merge lane. The purpose of the work is to alleviate congestion on eastbound Research Forest, according to Precinct 3.
