Medical City McKinney to increase maternity services with $17M expansion

In December, Medical City McK- inney opened a three-story patient tower. The third floor of the patient tower is set aside for orthopedics, surgery and trauma patients. How- ever, the tower provides Medical City McKinney with the ability to continue expanding up to ive sto- ries, and the irst and second floors of the tower are planned for future growth for the hospital’s clinic and other projects, oficials with the hospital had stated. The planned expansion for wom- en’s services will involve this tower and is part of Medical City Health- care’s major capital investment initiative of more than $1.4 billion spent or committed over ive years. The initiative includes building expansions, facility enhancements and leading-edge technology, the release stated. Construction for the irst phase of the women’s services expansion is expected to be complete by the end of 2023.

A $17 million project will expand care for mothers and newborns at Medical City McKinney. Construction will begin in Janu- ary 2023 on a major expansion and new patient tower at the hospital, according to a May 10 news release from Medical City McKinney. Con- struction will be done in multiple phases. The irst phase will build out an additional 24,000 square feet for a 21-bed neonatal intensive care unit, 12 VIP postpartum suites and a separate women’s services entrance for patients and visitors. “The new addition will enhance Medical City McKinney’s excep- tional maternity care,” Medical City McKinney CEO Ernest C. Lynch III said in the release. “This expansion will enable us to grow the num- ber of deliveries and provide an outstanding experience for patients and families.” Medical City McKinney delivered more than 2,000 babies in 2021, the release stated.
