McKinneyUrbanTransitDistrict switches serviceprovider toDART

TRAVELING THROUGH THE DISTRICT The map shows member cities in the rider assistance program, but rides can be taken throughout the entire county.

BY MIRANDA JAIMES At the end of 2021, the McKinney Urban Transit District’s contract for services with the Denton County Transit Authority expired, and the MUTD board agreed to switch service providers to Dallas Area Rapid Transit. The city of McKinney, the MUTD and nowDART provide Collin County Transit, a subsidized tax voucher program. In addition to living in a member city, individuals who qualify to use the taxi voucher programmust be 65 years or older, have a disability or meet certain low-income criteria. DART is providing two dedicated vehicles for taxi services and supple- mental services through Lyft. Services during the weekdays run from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. using the two

dedicated vehicles, and on the week- ends one of the dedicated vehicles operates from8 a.m.-8 p.m., per the DART presentation. DART also partners with Telelink Answering, which will serve as a call center for MUTD customers who do not have access to smartphones to book trips. This service is available 24/7, per an August presentation to the MUTD board. For this rst year, people using the MUTD transportation systemwill pay $3 per trip to travel to participating member cities and $5 per trip to travel outside the member cities into other parts of Collin County. Riders can book their trips through the GoPass app, which will launch in February, DART Project Manager Ryan McCutchan said.
