TISD approves new 2024-25 elementary attendance boundaries
Tomball ISD trustees unanimously approved new attendance boundaries Jan. 9 for the district’s elementary schools, reassigning an estimated 1,823 students for the 2024-25 school year. Long story short Drafts for new elementary, intermediate, junior high and high school boundaries were pub- lished on TISD’s website in November. Trustees approved revised elementary boundaries Jan. 9 and endorsed new plans for the intermediate, junior high and high schools, which will be used in future years. The elementary changes affect many campuses but are most prominent on TISD’s west side where West Elementary will open in August. “We’re going to maintain flexibility—[to] call an audible, if you will—in terms of the intermediate, junior high or high school zones based upon things that may happen between now and when West Intermediate opens [in 2025],” board Assistant Secretary Michael J. Pratt said.

Quote of note The rezoning process incorporated collaboration and feedback “in every way” district leaders could, Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamora said. “This isn’t a process that will ever please every- body, but it was our goal to please as many as we could [while] still accomplishing what we needed to accomplish,” she said. The takeaway The boundaries take effect when West Elemen- tary—located at the Juergen Road complex—opens in the fall. The need comes from enrollment growth and new schools, district officials said. Four schools—funded by TISD’s $494.46 million 2021 bond—will open between August and 2026. Within seven school years, eight TISD schools are expected to exceed capacity if no boundary changes are made or new schools are added, according to TISD enrollment projections.
