Jeffrey Stichler, current principal of Caney Creek High School, was named to the position. TOMBALL ISD During its Feb. 7 regular meeting, the Tomball ISD board of trustees unanimously approved the 2024-25 instructional calendar. In the 2024-25 school year, the first day of school will be Aug. 14, 2024, with the last day of school set for May 22, 2025. Other holidays include winter break from Dec. 23-Jan. 23, and spring break from March 10-14.

Students with a full course load able to receive the in-district rate will see a total tuition amount of $1,152. Head said the average LSCS student takes nine hours, which approximately costs $864. By comparison, full-time, in-dis- trict students at Houston Community College pay $1,020 per semester, or $767 for nine hours. The final budget will be approved in August for fiscal year 2023-24. Lone Star College System increased tuition per credit hour for the 2023-24 academic year. LONE STAR COLLEGE The Lone Star College System board of trustees voted to increase tuition starting in fall 2023. The unanimous vote passed March 2 without discussion during the consent agenda. Tuition will increase across in- and out-of-district tuition costs, out-of- state tuition, and dual credit tuition. LSCS Chancellor Stephen Head said the board agreed to hold tuition increases for students during 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to LSCS information, in-district tuition will increase 7% from $96 to $103 per credit hour. Out-of-district tuition increased by 7.9% over 2022’s prices from $214 to $231, while out-of-state and international tuition jumped by 7.8% from 2022 for a new cost of $290 per credit hour. According to the Lone Star College website, full-time students need at least 12 credit hours a semester.

CONROE ISD The first four bond planning committee meet- ings in Conroe ISD have included discussion on topics such as new school needs across the district, according to information at a March 7 workshop meeting. Proposals in The Woodlands area include a potential seventh-, eighth- and ninth-grade campus in the Grand Oaks High School feeder zone. CISD Director of Communica- tions Sarah Blakelock said the bond planning committee voted 98% in favor of calling a bond. CISD Superintendent Curtis Null said the bond committee’s main priority includes building two new high schools, which would cost about $800 million. The board of trustees has until Aug. 21 to put a bond on the ballot for the Nov. 7 election.
