September Carillon Parc Public Spaces Steering Committee is created. Fall Ceremonial groundbreaking scheduled. Early 2023 Construction set to begin on streets and infrastructure. December Library Task Force is created. June Southlake City Council favors Carillon Parc as the library location. March COVID-19 pandemic delays groundbreaking. Development closes on land; groundbreaking is scheduled for June 2020.

Carillon, was built with the promise of providing a walkable community— consisting of shops, restaurants and more—for its residents. The plans for Carillon Parc were originally approved by Southlake City Council in June 2018 but have been revised several times since then. The plan includes commercial space for restaurants as well as sin- gle-family residential units. The proj- ect will also feature public space with a library and a multiuse performing arts center. Terrell said the development team will go before council again in early November for the approval of a par- tial plat of the residential compo- nent and commercial land. The project’s developers have oered to donate land for the library and public space, which will add around $10 million in value to Southlake’s parks. Hunter Chase Development closed on the property in November 2019. All entitlements were nalized in December of that year with plans to break ground in June 2020, Terrell CONTINUED ON 30

After almost ve years of discus- sion and planning, the development of a space within Southlake’s Carillon neighborhood for commercial ten- ants and public space is set to break ground early next year. “We’re moving forward very rap- idly with the city to get this stu done and get bulldozers out there and start the process,” said John Ter- rell, co-founder of the park’s devel- opment company, Hunter Chase Development. Carillon Parc is a European-style, 42.5-acre mixed-use development in Southlake at the northeast corner of Hwy. 114 and White Chapel Boule- vard. Its surrounding neighborhood,

2015 Total mailboxes 1,495,000 40 Journalists

2022 Total mailboxes 2,450,000 75 Journalists

The CI Local Pin Incorporated into our main logo, the CI Local Pin symbolizes our focus on local and making an Impact in every community we serve.

The new mission statement is: “Our mission is to provide trusted news and local information that everyone gets,” which speaks to both the editorial content and business ads that our communities love and use. The vision statement was created by all Impacters and speaks to what we hope to accomplish with each day of our work: ”Our vision is to build communities of informed citizens and thriving businesses through the collaboration of a passionate team.” There are no changes to the company’s purpose and values, and Community Impact is committed to living those out every day. CI’s purpose is: “To be a light for our readers, customers, partners and each other.” The company’s values , or stones that are physically awarded internally for a job well done each month are Faith, Passion, Quality, Innovation and Integrity. The company’s updated logo features the signature CI red and gray, but lighter, brighter and bolder. CI also incorporated a new design element—the CI Local Pin , a simple recognizable icon—into the new logo to further solidify its focus on local news and making an impact in every community it serves. The design of the new logo more accurately reflects CI’s design philosophy, Creative Director Derek Sullivan said. “Less is more—we always aim to keep it clear, clean and concise,” he said. “In addition, the new CI Local Pin helps us visually connect the main brand with our other internal and external initiatives. For example, the pin is part of our IRG logos (Impacter Resource Groups promoting equity, diversity and inclusion), and the pin is shifted upside down to become an ink drop in our new CI Printing logo." Vice President of Sales and Marketing Tess Coverman said CI’s updated name speaks to the company’s robust product line and allows for continued innovation in the future. “As new ideas come up, as long as they filter through our updated mission statement and core values, we can more easily introduce them to the Community Impact audience,” she said. “For example, hosting events is a recent request by some CI Patrons as a benefit to the community and a new revenue stream, which we might consider in 2023.” With this brand update and newsroom expansion, CI prides itself on being the largest community journalism newsroom in the state, covering local businesses, transportation and road projects, development, health care and government.

No longer just a newspaper company, Community Impact is rebranding to better align with one of its core values: innovation.

Although many readers may know CI for its monthly, full- color print newspapers, the company is much more than just a printed newspaper. Since its inception in 2005 in the game room of John and Jennifer Garrett’s home in Round Rock, Texas, the company has lived up to its entrepreneurial roots, creating its own in-house customer relationship management software, building a printing plant, launching email newsletters and podcasts, and expanding its reach to four Texas metros and more than 2.4 million homes. To reflect its entire product line and continue to allow for future growth, the media company has changed its name from Community Impact Newspaper to Community Impact. This process began in early 2022 when leadership at CI completed a workshop with Jeff Hahn of Hahn Public to strategize their next innovative move. Following the workshop, CI made the decision to update its entire brand schematic, including the logo, colors, tagline, mission statement and vision statement. "Since 2005, Community Impact has been a trusted source for local news as we have built the largest community journalism news organization in Texas,” CEO and founder John Garrett said. “Our award-winning monthly newspaper and our innovative daily digital products will be the focus of the investment Jennifer and I are making in local news for—God willing—years to come. Our team is committed to helping all Texans we serve, regardless of your socioeconomic status or political affiliation, to get news you can trust to help you connect to your community." In an effort to produce even more local journalism, CI has already promoted 10 editorial team members since January and will add more newsroom positions in the coming months to maintain its status as the leading newsroom in the state. A portion of this growth is attributed to local CI advertisers along with CI’s reader-funded Patron program that launched in 2020. The company plans to expand with a corporate Patron program in 2023 based on similar demand. As part of the rebrand, the company’s new tagline , News Everyone Gets, was shortened from Local. Useful. Everyone Gets It. to mirror what CI does best—simplify complex information into various news formats in a delivery method and tone accessible to anyone. Plus, CI created a new mission statement and updated its vision statement to reflect both present-day and future goals.

Smith, head band director at Heritage Middle School, won in the “Growing through Advocacy” essay category. His essay tells the story of how volunteering for a teacher leader role on a committee helped him grow and positively impact students.

CA Alum Returns for First Teaching Job The summer before she began high school, Avery Jones had just moved back to Texas, was looking for a small school and wanted to get an early start on college coursework. Now three years after her high school graduation, she’s going back to Collegiate Academy — as the school’s new Algebra 2 teacher.

Colleyville moving forward with plans for $10M recreation center

NEW FACILITY The former Covenant Church at 3508 Glade Road will become the city of Colleyville’s new recreation center.

equipped for volleyball and pick- leball. The building also includes 10 classrooms, several flexible-use rooms, a full-size kitchen and another small gym. Annual operation costs are esti- mated at $262,272, the presentation stated. The center’s renovations are eligible for tax increment financing funds. The Colleyville Parks and Rec- reation Department coordinates programs, such as basketball and volleyball, with Grapevine-Col- leyville ISD to use school gyms and other facilities. Lindamood said the city’s partnership with GCISD has become difficult to manage with tight schedules and increased school security protocols. He said increased security has made GCISD’s facilities “unsustainable” for the city. The center will not have member- ship fees for Colleyville residents, Lindamood said. “We’re so excited to be able to share this exciting news with every- one,” Lindamood said. “Colleyville is blessed again.”

A 2019 citizen sur- vey showed residents wanted a new facility but did not want to spend a large amount of money for it. Colleyville recently invested $4.65 million in senior center renovations as part of its master plan. Once the sale of the property is complete, renovations will include adding a fence along Glade Road for safety, according to the meeting’s presentation. The facility will consist of a large removing carpet, refinishing flooring, removing a wall and primary structure, a secondary building and athletic fields. The primary building will have a full-size gymnasium with two basketball courts. The gym will also be

Colleyville has agreed to buy an old church as part of a $10 million plan to create a city recreation center with a gym, athletic fields and other amenities. City Council members voted unanimously at a Sept. 6 meeting to purchase the former Covenant Church and the surrounding 15 acres at 3508 Glade Road for $8.5 million. The city plans to spend another $1.5 million on renovations, according to information from the meeting. “Please know that this council [and] this staff has analyzed every single little detail to make sure that this is a good decision for our wonderful city of Colleyville,” Mayor Bobby Lindamood said. He said Covenant Church officials approached the council about their desire to sell the property. Col- leyville has been looking to provide
